About Osteopathy

Osteopathy is an established system of clinical diagnosis and manual treatment, which examines the whole of the person, not just the symptoms, in searching for the cause of the problem.

In particular, Osteopathy is concerned with the function and movement of the many inter-related structures and tissues in the body. Osteopaths can detect and treat injured tissues such as muscles, ligaments, nerves, joints, and deeper connective tissue. By restoring the natural movement patterns in these tissues, a number of conditions throughout the body can be addressed.

Osteopathy is well known for treatment of back, neck and shoulder problems, but it works very well on any area in the body, including extremities, and the abdomen. All ages can benefit from treatment from the newborn, to adults and the elderly.

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy is not just treatment of the cranium, but a treatment modality for the whole body. A treatment may involve a gentle specific pressure on not only on the head, but also the spine, tailbone, pelvis, ribcage or extremities.

The cranial osteopath uses a trained and finely tuned sense of touch to feel motion in the muscles, joints, connective tissue, nervous system and fluid layers of the body. The osteopath can detect where motion patterns may be disturbed, thus affecting the state of health. By providing very specific points of ease in the tissue, the osteopath is able to help the body to unwind itself. The result is to re-establish ease through the muscular, nervous, immune, and circulatory systems. This follows Osteopathic principles that the body has an inherent tendency to be healthy and an inbuilt self-healing mechanism (homeostasis) in order to maintain health.

At Oceanic Osteopathy we welcome patients of all ages and have a real passion and long-standing reputation for gentle treatments with babies, children, and pregnant women.
Cranial Osteopathy is a refined and subtle type of osteopathic treatment that uses very gentle pressure to release strain patterns and tensions throughout the body in order to optimise the healthy functioning of that person.
